Yes, the surface should be wiped down with a damp cloth first. Caliwel can be applied directly over moldy surfaces as long as the surface is clean and not rough or thick with mold. In other words, if the surface is smooth and most of the mold is underneath the surface, application directly over the top is fine.However, if the surface is thick or rough, it should be scraped off or wiped off with a nylon scrub pad until it is smooth.Priming with a normal acrylic primer (ECOS Universal Primer or AFM Transitional Primer) is recommended when good adhesion would be questionable such as a sticky, waxy, oily or a surface that is difficult to clean well.
