We are planning to paint out old farmhouse in the spring. We will be painting over aluminum siding that was installed in the late 70s. it's been painted several times over the years, but it is chalky and fading. What do we need to do to prep the aluminum, and then what products would we use to prime and paint (and how many coats of each would you recommend for aluminum)?

When painting over old paint, preparing the surface is key to good adhesion and a long lasting top coat. Pressure washing and removing dirt, rust, and loose paint are critical. Any caulking should be done next. As they say, preparation is 50%.Use one coat of AFM Transitional Primer followed by two coats of AFM Exterior Satin Paint. The Transitional Primer is the ideal primer as it transitions from oil-based paint to water-based paints. Allow to dry 24 hours before application of the paint.
