This should only be applied to the sanded areas of the table. Benches should also be sanded if you want to apply this product to them as well. The oil wax need to be able to penetrate the surface in order for the product to work - so not following the surface prep directions ("Sand wood smooth with 150 grit sandpaper to open wood grain") will cause trouble. That said, this is a great product for interior furniture application.
