For wax you always need to use a buffer. It's best to use a buffer to rigorously work the product into and with the wood grain, waiting about 15 minutes, and apply again. After waiting another 15 minutes or so, you'll want to wipe up any oil that hasn't penetrated the wood with a clean absorbent cloth, not allowing the oil to puddle. Always test an small area first.
