This product will darken most wood by 5-10%. It also will enrich the appearance significantly and bring out the texture of the grain which is why oils have been preferred over water-based finishes. Provided your rough cut table is clean and dry you do not have to do additional prep work to apply the Naturals Clear Penetrating Oil. We suggest you do some test patches on inconspicuous areas to ensure the product soaks in (if lumber was pressure treated, green, or otherwise not ready to accept oil, this can affect soak in ability). We sell sample sizes just for this purpose. This being an oil, and an outdoors table, we should note that this will age and grey under UV light from the sun and the aging effects of weather. Meaning you will need to periodically reapply this finish as the table dries out over time. If you want a longer lasting finish you would need to use a stain with a pigment in it or an exterior grade paint.
