While countertops are not included on the official usage for Polyureseal BP (made chiefly for floors), we have had customers use it for countertops with some success. It could work for you if applied and maintained correctly to a wood countertop. Beyond following the application instructions, we at Green Building Supply recommend: - 4 coats, minimum - Always use a cutting board to cut food on and trivets for hot pots (never cut directly on your countertop) - Remove water/condensation promptly from under flatware and glasses, or use coasters, placemats, etc. - Food oils or acid spills must be cleaned up quickly - Do not expect your polyuresealed countertop to perform like quartz or stone - For cleaning use a mild all-purpose cleaner like SafeChoice, Multi-Purpose Cleaner and Degreaser or Blissfully Clean. If you are preparing your raw food directly on your butcher block countertop and not on cutting boards and the like, we have two food-grade options that are both oil-based. Bioshield Herbal Oil #2 is a food-grade sealer for use on food surfaces such as butcher blocks, wooden countertops, salad bowls, wooden utensils, and cutting boards. there is no need for other sealers on top if it is maintained regularly. Another option is AFM Safecoat Naturals Clear Penetrating Oil which is also food grade, i.e. edible. The other oils and coatings on our website are all safe and non-toxic, but not edible like these two.
