I got samples of the Natural and Teak. Looking for something that would give UV protection but also keep the cedar outdoor furniture looking close to the way cedar looks naturally. Do you think the Natural, being fairly light, gives enough UV protection? Or should we try mixing another shade in? I would assume the darker the shade, the more protection. But, is the Natural enough protection to last say for a year? The Vermont Natural cedar stain has too much orange tone for our taste. It would be great if their company developed more colors. I need to stain joists that I will be using to rebuild part of my deck. The boards are pressure-treated 6X10s that have been cut into four-foot lengths. All the info I can find online about preparing lumber so that stain will adhere to it recommends toxic products. Everything I read says that if you don't prepare the boards the stain won't adhere. That is a particular problem since I live at 9,000 feet in Colorado where we have bitter, snowy winters.
