For the inside of planter boxes beneath the soil line we recommend AFM Dynoseal. Dynoseal will help protect the wood from moisture, while also preventing any harmful chemicals from leaching into the soil. For the wood above the soil line, you can use AFM Transitional Primer and Exterior Satin Paint to make the wood pretty and resistant to the elements and UV Rays.
