We’ve provided several answers to questions related to Waterproof Click - Floating , see some other helpful Q&A related to this product.
Question: Is this product made in China?
Answer: Per the Specs section at the bottom of the product page, "Country of Manufacture-- Germany ".
Question: To what extent do the colors change with exposure to light - and are the samples in the sample kit "mature" in this regard? I'm looking at a photo on this website of a checkerboard kitchen floor made from Caribbean and Barbados and I want exactly that look - but unlike that photo, the 1-1/2 inch samples in Forbo's sample books show these as almost identical tones.
Answer: Caribbean and Barbados are indeed quite close in color. The way they look on the samples in person are how they come. (This is why we ALWAYS advise people to see samples in person, computer monitors can show things different than real life)
Question: Can AFM Safe Seal be applied to HDF clicks or Cork backing to seal in the smell or would it do damage? I notice when I unclick the sample the I smell either HDF or Cork smell come out again.
Answer: We do not sell a product to seal/encapsulate organic "wood/cork" smells.
Question: are the following colors in the sample box? Black Sheep, Rocky Ice, Straw Field, Compressed Time, Cork Tree, Trace of Nature, Oxidized Copper? thank you in advance.
Answer: All of the current colors of the Marmoleum Click Cinch Loc Seal are included in the Sustainable Sample Box for your review.Cork Tree, Rocky Ice and Trace of Nature are included. The others are discontinued or belong to the tile or sheet collections.
Question: We are thinking of installing the marmoleum cinch lock square tiles in a bathroom. How easy would it be to remove and replace a tile of one of them gets damaged?
Answer: Marmoleum Click Cinch Loc Seal can be installed and replaced just like most laminate or vinyl types of engineered floors. Damage due to abuse and/or improper cleaning methods may occur, but in most cases the floor can be repaired rather than being replaced. That's because Marmoleum is a through-body color and scratches or gouges can be buffed out in the same way that scratches and gouges are sanded out in wood flooring. It is unlikely that the planks will need to be replaced in a bathroom due to minimal traffic, but if the damage is excessive, it can certainly and easily be replaced.
Question: Hi! We are thinking about the waterproof tile or planks for our basement. We occasionally get some seepage of water into the floor in big storms. Will we be able to click out some tiles to dry underneath? Also our existing linoleum has asbestos and so we need the new tile to cover that. Thoughts?
Answer: Marmoleum Click Cinch Loc Seal is a waterproof floating floor, however, it is not flood proof. The warranty does not cover their flooring it if is sitting in water all day and night. Neither does any other waterproof flooring manufacturer. It is best to seal the walls and/or floors so they don't leak with our GBS Penetrating Concrete Sealer. You can always un-click the flooring and let it dry out, but that is not a long-term solution. This product can be applied directly over asbestos tile with either a 6ml vapor barrier (Moisture Block) or 1/8" underlayment (QuietWalk Plus) to prevent any exposure. We recommend seeking the advice of a professional mitigation company before attempting any installation.
Question: The installation instructions say not to use in a dry environment. My house does get very dry (20s-30s) in the winter and even with room humidifier I have not found a way to raise the humidity much. The house is heated with central heating. How does this affect the flooring? if i store the flooring indoors for weeks to a month to offgas before installing and it is that dry, would that make the installation more problematic? would it make the clicks more brittle?
Answer: While Marmoleum Click Cinch Loc Seal is a very stable product, excessively dry conditions may cause shrinkage and possibly cracking. It will not increase or decrease the off-gassing (there is nothing hazardous anyway) or the brittleness of the click mechanism. The requirement for relative humidity of 35-65% applies to all types of flooring, furniture, cabinetry, millwork, plants, pets and people. Less than that puts undue stress on everything. We understand that certain parts of the country and certain elevations are very challenging for homeowners. Consider using a second humidifier or looking into a whole house humidifier such as AprilAire. We added one to our home in Iowa and it made a huge difference.
Question: cost for sheet 12' x 12' with a thin pad?
Answer: Please refer to the actual product page on our website for current pricing. You may enter in the amount you are interested in and the shopping cart will give you total costs. Tax will be added once you enter your information to place the order.
Question: I absolutely love the color possibility in the sample box... The only thing that I was missing was a white, there was just an odd cream color ... Is there one?
Answer: There is no pure white. Marmoleum is made from linseed oil which has a golden cast. That can't be made white. The whitest would be the Barbados.
Question: Does the click need a vapor barrier? In my case a 1st floor powder/laundry room with plywood subfloor on top of an unfinished but dehumidified basement? I'm confused by Forbo's subfloor guide, and various answers here for different situations that call for the need or no need for a vapor barrier and the type. Some say just the Moisture Block and some say only use Quiet Walk because it's the only one that wicks moisture?
Answer: According the manufacturer, no vapor barrier is required for warranty purposes whenever applying their Cinch Loc Seal product over a plywood subfloor. It is only "required" over a concrete subfloor. If your basement is dehumidified, moisture will be controlled and therefore no barrier is needed. If you basement is not dehumidified, then a barrier would be needed.QuietWalk Plus is an underlayment and vapor barrier, it can be used because, unlike most vapor barriers, it does not trap moisture. Instead it wicks moisture out and up into the ambient air. This is an option if you wish to use it to help make your floor quieter and warmer. It is not required.
Question: How sun resistant is your flooring? I've seen cork flooring fade from sun damage.
Answer: Marmoleum should not fade when exposed to natural light. It has been tested to and passed ASTM F 1515 for Light Stability by color change.
Question: can click cinch marmoleum be used in an outdoor shed?
Answer: None of the flooring we sell is for exterior use.
Question: Installing in a food prep area where we mop regularly. How slippery is it when wet?
Answer: Forbo Marmoleum Click Cinch Loc Seal should never be wet mopped. You want to use a damp mop only. You will have to be careful to keep water from pooling on the floor and mop it us as soon as possible. Make sure you only use a neutral pH cleaner. Forbo makes an excellent cleaner called Marmoleum Neutral pH Cleaner. Here are links to both the cleaner and also to Forbo's floor care guide:https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/A...https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/c...

Question: We reviewed the sample box and chose 'Concrete' - as it looked perfect for our cabinet color choice. However, we ordered 1 box and the color is overwhelmingly yellowish - not at all like the sample. Is this common and will the yellow cast ever fade away?
Answer: This is a natural phenomenon which is why Forbo explains in detail on every installation guide the process of ambering. This is most typical on the gray colors. Once exposed to UV light for several days or weeks, the yellow will dissipate. Happens to everyone. Relax.https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/c...
Question: Can a shine be applied to marmoleum click loc tile? The matte finish is rather dull.
Answer: Yes, it was intended to be that way to hide scratch marks. Also, matte finishes are popular these days with most consumers. If you prefer a shinier floor, you can use Forbo's Floor Finish. However, if your floor is brand new, that might require some special instructions. I would suggest you contact Forbo technical support at 570-450-0317 or email: travis.nenstiel@forbo.com
Question: The instructions for the marmoleum click tile say supplies needed include spacers and 3/8" fitting wedges. What's the difference between a fitting wedge and a spacer?
Answer: Not much really...spacers and fitting wedges keep your floor in place during installation while also accounting for the necessary expansion zone.
Question: What is the average price per square foot?
Answer: The pricing is all directly on the product page. https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/F...
Question: Hello. We are looking for nontoxic flooring for our basement. I read about the real possibility of toxic materials in recycled vinyl and to only get LVF with virgin vinyl. I'm not interested in LVF; however, I noticed that your Marmoleum flooring has 78% recycled content and now wonder about how safe it is. What is the recycled content made from? Would you please address this concern? Thank you!
Answer: The recycled content is from waste produced within the forbo factories and previous marmoleum installations and builds. More info can be gleaned from the manufacturer's website here: https://www.forbo.com/flooring/en-us/...
Question: To be clear, is 12x12 marmoleum not available until mid-January?
Answer: Based on popularity and seasonal demand, there may be particular colors and sizes of this flooring on backorder. If you give us a call at 641-323-6111 we would be happy to check on the status of whichever color/size you are interested in.

Question: Can the Marmoleum Click withstand extreme heat changes? If the home is not heated in the winter and reaches subzero temperatures, will the flooring hold up?
Answer: The ambient room temperature should be at least 68 degrees F (20 degrees C) and the ambient relative humidity between 50% - 60%. To maintain the long-term value of Marmoleum Cinch LOC Seal, we recommend the use of a humidifier to avoid extreme drying out during the heating season.
Question: Can I return unopened boxes if I order too much?
Answer: If that happens, you will need to call in to 641-323-6111 and get an RA number. The return will have to be approved by Forbo, it will have to be within 30 days of arrival, and there is a 30% restock fee as well as you pay for the shipping back to Forbo. Situations vary for allowing the return. So, if it happens, call in to that number and they'll be able to assist you at that time.
Question: Do you install floors for consumers?
Answer: We do not know of installers around the country as we are just one retail location that happens to sell this product and we do not have installers. However, many clients around the country have told us of https://cfiinstallers.org/, have used it and have had great success. I hope you do, as well.
Question: Could marmoleum be used for a sauna floor?
Answer: No. Too much exposure to heat and moisture.
Question: Is there a guarantee on the flooring?
Answer: In the Downloads section on the right side of the product page, there is a warranty PDF : https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/c...

Question: Do the more "wood look"-esque lined planks have a few variations within the same color or all planks within a color are the exact same print? I ask because for example on Welsh Moor the room visualizer repeats the same dark blotch on every plank which is very noticeable as a repeated print but if there were some variations it would be less noticeable.
Answer: The pattern does repeat every 7th board, so there is variation, and you can dictate when you install where the similar boards appear relative to one another.
Question: Where can I find all the wood like colors that this company makes?. Doesn't seem to have enough here.
Answer: The Marmoleum colors you see on our website are all that are available in the US.
Question: Will the box notate which samples are on backorder currently?
Answer: No, it will not as backorders change often. You may look at the product page as we try to keep updates current there as we get them from Forbo.
Question: Can the marmoleum click tiles be installed on top of existing 20"x20" ceramic tile floor?
Answer: Follow the instructions specified on the Installation Guidelines which is found on the right side of the page under Downloads. https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/c...That states, "Marmoleum Cinch LOC Seal can be installed on any clean, dry, structurally sound subfloor. Question: Can I use this on furniture? I don't like any of the colors offered for the furniture Linoleum, would it be possible to use the flooring one instead on top of a desk?
Answer: The Cinch Loc is not meant to be used on a desk. But people use the flooring glue down sheet goods all the time on countertops and there are several more colors than the furniture line. https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/A...
Question: Do you have green wellness in panels?
Answer: No. These are the colors that come in the Cinch Loc : https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/F...
Question: Is this flooring a laminate?
Answer: Marmoleum Click Cinch Lock is a healthier alternative to vinyl, VCT or laminate flooring because it's made with all natural bio-based ingredients: linseed oil, limestone, tree rosins, wood flour, mineral pigments and jute. Each panel is composed of three-parts: top layer - 2.5mm Marmoleum (Netherlands), middle layer - high density waterproof fiberboard made from recycled wood fiber (France), and bottom layer - cork (Portugal). It's not a laminate.
Question: What is the size of each color sample?
Answer: Roughly 10 inches square for the Marmoleum Click Seal Color Samples.
Question: Do all the natural linoleum flooring have a cork backing?
Answer: The Marmoleum Click Cinch Loc click-together flooring has a cork backing. All the other Marmoleum Floors do not have cork: the Marmoleum/linoleum glue down sheet goods and glue down MCT and Modular tiles. Order small samples online to see an actual piece in person.

Question: I have a large expanse of windows, is this product UV resistant?
Answer: Marmoleum should not fade when exposed to natural light. It has been tested to and passed ASTM F 1515 for Light Stability by color change
Question: Can marmoleum be used over heated floors (hot water tubes)? + Will it allow heat to radiate into the room?
Answer: Per the Specs section at the bottom of the product page, "Radiant Heat Okay for use with hydronic radiant heat ONLY; see manufacturer instructions for details ".
Question: two questions: 1. We have a large expanse of south windows in our living room, how well will the Marmoleum Click Cinch Loc Seal : Waterproof natural linoleum stand up to sun fading? 2. We don't want a built in kitchen island rather we're thinking of a smaller 2'x 3" island on castors, will this product stand up to the island being moved?
Answer: Marmoleum should not fade when exposed to natural light. It has been tested to and passed ASTM F 1515 for Light Stability by color change. Furniture being placed on top of the Click tiles should not be an issue. One thing to watch out for is the feet/pressure points of the item. If they are small/narrow, you'll want to use glides to help distribute the weight of the item more evenly. This will also help if you do plan on moving things around in the future. If possible, you would also want to keep the feet from standing right on a seam.
Question: What is the Top Finish made out of that we come in contact with? I understand the Linoleum is natural and does not have any plastics and no VOCs! Which would be why I'd buy this product. But the topical finish is polyester and has some VOCs correct? Do we have any products that do not contain any Top Finishes that have VOCs or contains any form of plastic or harsh chemicals?
Answer: Per Forbo, "The finish will be double UV cured acrylic. Its makeup will be acrylic copolymer & polyurethane foam. Our products will also meets the CDPH 01350 emissions standard."
Question: Which is the better underlay for Marmoleum Click on a wood subfloor with an unfinished crawl space underneath? I've looked at MP Quietwalk Plus and MP moisture block, but I'm unsure which is better, or if there are other/better options.
Answer: Moisture from crawl spaces can be absorbed into the subfloors and then into the Marmoleum unless they are properly sealed first from underneath the floor joists with 6mil poly. Also the crawl space needs to be ventilated properly. QuietWalk Plus and Moisture Block do not take the place of these requirements. Please carefully read and follow the substrate evaluation guidelines: https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/c...
Question: Anyone with Donkey Island color, does the pattern seem busy in a room when it's laid down, or is it just me looking at the sample too closely? Thank you!
Answer: There is quite a bit of color variation and movement in the Donkey Island, so there would be the potential to look busy in a room but that would be an aesthetic choice that is going to vary person to person. Also keep in mind how far away the floor is generally going to be from your eye line.
Question: I see that many of your options are on backorder for Forbo Click lock Marmoleum. Are there other retailers or outlets that might carry it or have it in stock? I checked the main website and it looked like I could only order samples from there. I found another site that seems to have it but am trying to cover my bases by making sure it's the legit product from Forbo.
Answer: It's true, as of now (7-21-22) several colors and styles of Marmoleum Click are on backorder. We work directly with Forbo and Forbo warehouses so this state of affairs is a reflection of Forbo's current situation in the United States. That said, theoretically, if another retailer with a warehouse of their own had bought Forbo stock before this current Forbo dry spell, that other retailer with a warehouse may have older inventory to sell through before having to order more through Forbo. We certainly cannot speak to the legitimacy of competitor retailers.
Question: Is it possible to "see it in my room" in a checkerboard pattern? I would love that feature.
Answer: On the Cinch Loc page it states, "Click here for an online floor planner. You can use this to check out all the colors and play around with design ideas before you buy! ". This is the link it takes you to: https://forbo-consumers.esignserver3....For now, this is the only place to simulate a tile pattern like a checkerboard.
Question: Hi, this Marmoleum Click product contains hdf. My understanding is hdf is toxic?
Answer: HDF stands for high-density fiberboard. We had another customer that thought it stood for "high density formaldehyde" which is not the case. High-density fiberboard is not toxic.
Question: How are entry area handled? Do you need a threshold?
Answer: Please give us a call at 1-800-405-0222 and one of our trained eco advisors can walk you through when and where thresholds are necessary, as it can vary from project to project.
Question: What is the IIC Rating on Marmoleum?
Answer: Impact insulation class marmoleum click: marmoleum click over a 6 inch concrete slab - IIC 57 marmoleum click over a wood joist construction - IIC 53It depends on you exact situation but in general it looks like in the 50's range
Question: can it stand up to kitchen chairs??
Answer: That all depends on the weight of the chairs and the style of the feet. Dimples or other damage can be produced on any type of floor if the feet are sharp or anything other than even/flat/wide surfaces of equal weight distribution. We recommend furniture pads, available via any big box store to work against dimpling.
Question: I am going to put "Donkey Island" in our butler pantry, laundry room and a small guest bathroom. I am looking at Natural Cherry wood for cupboards in the pantry. I will put in the same wood in the laundry in the lower cupboards and blue cupboards above. The color I choose for the blue was Sherwin Williams "Favorite Jeans". Do you thinking that Favorite Jeans blue color is a good pick to go along with the Donkey island flooring? I am picking out Silestone Statuario for our countertops. I would love you opinion on these items since we will be purchasing the donkey island flooring. Thanks, Heidi Halverson
Answer: Hi Heidi. The best option is for you to order a sample of Donkey Island (we sell marmoleum samples for $1 each, with free shipping through USPS). So you can hold it in your home, next to your paint swatch and wood samples to see if the combination looks right to you. Color is super subjective, and only you can know if something is going to work for you.Samples can be ordered via the website (just look for the "Add a Sample to Cart" button on the search result pages or the product detail pages). Or you can always phone in your order. 1-800-405-0222
Question: Can I use steam cleaner on the marmoleum click floor? Any suggestion what I can use to fill the gap between the wall and floor after installation of marmoleum click?
Answer: Yes, you can use a steam cleaner with distilled water. However, you should be careful not to focus the nozzle directly on the seams as excessive moisture may get between the planks. Marmoleum comes with a TopShield 2 sealer built into the surface, so you don't need much water to clean. Forbo recommends a very small amount of water, i.e. damp mop is all you need. Steam cleaners work well, but may not be necessary. Focus on prevention with rugs in front of and behind doorway entrances, pads under the furniture, and regular sweeping or vacuuming to remove the bulk of the dirt from your Forbo floor. To hide the necessary expansion gap between the edge of the floor and the wall you can install molding or a baseboard, gluing it to the wall, not the floor.
Question: How many colors are there total.?
Answer: Kit includes:Marmoleum Click Cinch Loc Sample Deck with all 28 colors 2 random-colored samples of Click Cinch Loc that can be clicked together Moisture Block Sample Quietwalk Plus Sample Pre-Paid Return Label Price List for Flooring and Accessories$25 coupon code toward the purchase of at least 250 sf of flooring
Question: I am looking for a color that is show in the "inspiration" video, color 333355, I believe it is Rosemary Green. Do you carry this color? Thanks!
Answer: Rosemary Green unfortunately is no longer available as a Click Cinch Loc color (the video was originally produced back in 2016). It is available as a sheet good however - https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/A...
Question: can this marmoleum floor be damaged by dog nails and cat claws?
Answer: Yes. Any floor can be damaged with unkempt dog nails, depending on the size/weight of your dog and how rowdy they get. That's just part of having a large dog as a pet. That said, we know that a lot of dog owners love this floor, it holds up well.
Question: can you make a herringbone pattern for a corner in a hallway?
Answer: With the click mechanism as it is, it's not possible to make a herringbone pattern.
Question: We are looking for flooring for the main room at our beach cottage (kitchen/dining/living combines) and are wondering whether we should choose Marmoleum or waterproof cork. We noted that the waterproof cork guarantee doesn't apply to sand damage, but think the Marmoleum may be similarly vulnerable. Any thoughts on the best option?
Answer: Both products could be scratched by sand. Same for hardwood and bamboo. Porcelain tile is the best flooring for resisting scratches from sand and even that can sometimes be scratched too.
Question: Do the larger planks and the smaller size tiles connect in the same manner ? I would like to finish up my last narrow row and the closet with the smaller tiles so as not to have to cut larger planks to fit a narrow row. Hard to do with my table saw.
Answer: The Click Cinch Loc 12" x 12" square tiles and the 12" x 36" panels do have the same locking mechanism, and you can click and lock both styles together, in fact, some flooring pattern designs call for it.
Question: What do you call the rug that looks like hardwood.?
Answer: This is not a rug, this is Marmoleum. The name of each color is under the large gallery image on the center of the product detail page.
Question: Planning on to install 12x12 cork marmoleum on my 1972 Vintage Winnebago RV floor. On top of the old linoleum flooring? Special glue for it?
Answer: We would not recommend Marmoleum Click for this use, the wood content makes it too rigid for an RV setting.Any of our Marmoleum SHEET Glue Down products https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/A... can be glued down to a solid stable subfloor in a RV/mobile home, provided the temperature and ambient humidity are controlled for 7 days prior, during, and 7 days post installation. The Installation Guidelines and the Substrate Evaluation & Preparation Guidelines documentation provide more detail for installing over an existing resilient floor. These pdfs are located on the product detail page under downloads, direct links below for your convenience. Please see Installation Guidelines here: https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/c...Please see Substrate Evaluation & Preparation Guidelines here: https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/c...
Question: Can Marmoleum be installed over a vinyl floor that has a slight unevenness in one section?
Answer: Per the installation instructions "Marmoleum Click can be installed on any clean, dry, structurally sound subfloor. The subfloor must be flat to within 3/32" in 6' (2.0mm in 2 meters). "If you deviate from the above, it can create a situation where you create tension on where the boards meet/on the clicking mechanism that hold the floor together, which could create a warp in the floor and a failed floor that is no longer warranted. Your best solution is to fix the unevenness in the vinyl floor, either via a floor leveler or by removing and replacing the damaged section of your subfloor.Installation instructions are included in the downloads section of the product detail page, direct link below for your convenience.https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/c...
Question: How do I clean the floor with these tiles?
Answer: Forbo recommends sweeping daily and damp mopping weekly. You can use their Forbo Neutral pH Cleaner which is a concentrate or you can use any of the other wood floor cleaners listed on our website. They do not recommend waxes, Murphys oil soap or anything with strong acids or alkalines. Here is a link to Forbo's Residential Floor Care Guide also posted on our website: https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/c...
Question: How large are the sample tiles?
Answer: Individual Forbo Marmoleum Click Samples (including the two in this box) are approximately 6 inches square. The fan deck chips measure 6" x 3" each.
Question: A previous answer said to go around appliances. I want to use this in my kitchen. The only freestanding appliance I have is refrigerator. Are you saying I have to tile around the refrigerator and keep the old floor under the refrigerator?
Answer: Per Forbo tech department, the Cinch Loc click tiles can go under appliances. It would just be cabinets that they would recommend going up to but not underneath.
Question: Is there any additional sound deadening material that you would recommend?
Answer: Our underlayment called Quietwalk Plus would be a great addition to act as a moisture barrier, sound proofer, and adds comfort too. Another option for sound deadening only would be adding cork underlayment.
Question: Has the cost of Marmoleum Click Cinch planks increased since early 2020?
Answer: Yes. On May 1st 2021 there was a Forbo mandated price increase for all Forbo products, which included both the Click Cinch Loc Panels and Planks. Like anything else, prices do change over time (inflation, tariffs, taxes, etc.)
Question: Are there caveat or special techniques for large floors? We have a 12' x 30' floor to surface.
Answer: As outlined in the installation instructions (see the downloads section of the product detail page, direct link below for convenience)"For any areas that are longer or wider than 26', an expansion joint that is a minimum of 3/8" should be inserted. This can be covered with a "T" shaped molding."Installation Instructions: https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/c... NOTE: Forbo does not make coordinating moldings (such as the T shape mentioned above) for their floors but, Versatrim.com offers coordinating molding for the Marmoleum Click Cinch Loc.
Question: We live in a 1907 Craftsman that does not have a level kitchen floor...is this product a good option because it doesn't have glue or nails?
Answer: No. This click floor needs to go over a level subfloor. If you install it over an unlevel surface, it will put a lot of strain on the click mechanism holding the floor together and it will fail to hold together.
Question: Do you sell wall trim that matches the Marmoleum Click? If not, how do you finish the edge?
Answer: Looking for molding to compliment your new Click Cinch Loc floor? We recommend Versatrim compatible moldings, these can be purchased via Versatrim at 866-200-8132 (not available on our website).
Question: What is the R value of the tiles? We will be using it over a concrete slab.
Answer: The Forbo, Marmoleum Click Cinch Loc has an R-value of 0.53 F ft2 h/Btu.
Question: Can I use this for a kitchen backsplash ?
Answer: It would be better to use the Marmoleum sheeting for that purpose.
Question: I have a peninsula and one 12 inch cabinet holding the counter, however the cabinet is not screwed to the floor it is held in place by the counter, which is bracketed to the wall will it inhibit the possible expansion?
Answer: Marmoleum Click Cinch Loc will expand and contract when humidity increases or decreases. If the weight is too heavy, it will restrict the movement. The weight of countertops, especially granite/quartz/stone plus the weight of cabinets will be too much for the floor and will restrict its movement. Therefore, we normally recommend not putting floating floors underneath cabinets. In this case, it appears there may be an exception since the weight of one small cabinet is not very much. We still recommend leaving space around the perimeter for expansion.
Question: Can Marmoleum Click Loc Tile be installed in the bathroom?
Answer: The Marmoleum Click Cinch Loc has been used by thousands of our customers in bathrooms, laundry rooms and basements for years. The click mechanism is extremely tight so water does not seep in from the surface. However, it can get underneath which is why we recommend using caulk around the perimeter to prevent moisture from getting into the high-density fiberboard core.Another option would be to use the Marmoleum sheeting or tile which is glued down to the subfloor and comes in rolls and squares. https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/A... .A better option is our Waterproof Cork Flooring, which comes in wood and cork looks and is made with all interior rooms in mind, including bathrooms, kitchens, mudrooms, basements, bedrooms, etc. It is more kid and pet friendly and avoids any potential worry.
Question: Do I need an underlayment if installing on OSB in a shed turned office?
Answer: Marmoleum Click Cinch Loc may be installed over oriented strand board (OSB) because it is exterior grade, however, you will still need a vapor barrier to protect moisture from coming up from below.
Question: will these Marmoleum squares turn a different colour from the sun?....My linoleum tiles did. they turned yellow,
Answer: I believe you are asking about the ambering process. Yes, there is a slight color shift, this brochure covers what to expect. https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/c...
Question: I ordered some samples and notice an odor from the linseed oil. Does this smell dissipate over time? If so, how long for an installed floor to lose the odor?Thank you!
Answer: All-natural linseed oil is a prime ingredient with this product, along with limestone, tree rosins, natural pigments, wood flour, and jute. The linseed smell does dissipate in time, a couple of days or a couple of weeks, depending on your specific level of sensitivity.
Question: Hello, I'm looking to install marmoleum in a condo. Our building regulations require a 1/2" cork underlayment plus 1/8" isolation foam material beneath all hard floors. The base floor is concrete. Would it be possible to install marmoleum on top of these? Thank you!
Answer: That assembly would be too much for Click Cinch Loc. The increased cushion could cause excess stress on the clicking mechanism which could result in creaking or breaking quite rapidly. Cinch Loc can handle max 1/8" under it.
Question: I want to have a Marmoleum "rug" for under my dining room table. This will allow me to clean up under my toddlers high chair and protect our hard wood from the chairs scooting into and away from our table. My question is do you sell a border that goes all the way around the flooring planks? A frame so to speak? Another solution would be a roll form of Marmoleum is that available?
Answer: Marmoleum Click Cinch Loc is not available with special boarders, however, you can certainly use different colors of the Cinch loc to frame your floor with a 12" wide boarder. This is best done with the 12x12 squares. The sheet of Marmoleum will not work in conjunction with the Cinch loc as it is only 1/8" thick and the Cinch loc is 3/8" thick. The sheeting might be a better solution for your application since it comes 79" wide and can be cut to any length. Generally it is glued down but if the piece was small enough you could move it around as needed. It was not made for this purpose but it could work if you were careful moving it around and had some way to keep the edges from getting damaged.
Question: Do I need an underlayment?
Answer: If applying over a concrete subfloor, a vapor barrier is required for warranty purposes. Our 6ml Moisture Block will do the job. However, if you would like more thermal and acoustical value, you can use the QuietWalk Plus in place of the Moisture Block. If you are applying over a plywood subfloor on the second floor, then neither moisture barrier or underlayment are required but they are optional.
Question: Can the Marmoleum click tiles be used in a 3 season room? It has windows, so rain shouldn't be an issue, but it will get cold in the winter. Will the tiles have any issue withstanding the New England winter cold?
Answer: Forbo suggests, "The ambient room temperature should be at least 68 degrees F (20 degrees C) and the ambient relative humidity between 50% - 60%. To maintain the long term value of Marmoleum Click, we recommend the use of a humidifier to avoid extreme drying out during the heating season." If that room can be maintained in that way and all other parameters fall into place for what is required to install this product, you may certainly do so. https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/c...
Question: I'm curious about the perm rating of marmoleum: to what extent is marmoleum vapor permeable? In the passive house construction world, it's important for every material in the wall/floor/ceiling assemblies to be air and water tight, but to be vapor permeable.Since marmoleum sheets are adhered to the floor with a continuous layer of glue/mastic, or in the case of the click tile product the marmoleum is glued to HDF which is in turn glued to cork, I also wonder if, even though marmoleum on it's own may have an excellent perm rating, the glues render that null? It seems like glues would perform, from a vapor standpoint, like a sheet of plastic... I'd love insight on this!
Answer: Interesting question but as far as I know, there have been no studies on perm rating for Marmoleum. It is our belief that this product is vapor permeable. We just don't know to what degree. With few exceptions, most adhesives are vapor permeable. Our reasoning is that If the adhesive used between the layers blocked vapor 100% Forbo would not require a vapor barrier underneath them. For more information, please contact Forbo technical dept. shannon.wolski@forbo.com. Good luck.
Question: Can this product be installed over marble tile?
Answer: Per the substrate evaluation located on the right hand side of the product page in the Downloads, https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/c... , you will want to read the Existing Resilient Flooring on page 3. It spells out the options of installing Cinch Loc on existent flooring.
Question: Does oxidized copper come in a 12 x 12 inch size marmoleum click tile?
Answer: Those linear patterned colors (like Oxidized Copper) are part of the Striato line, only come in the 24x36 Click panels.
Question: What countertop will match with oxidized copper flooring?
Answer: We can't make color recommendations as your personal style choices and palette are entirely subjective. That said, we do offer samples in all our countertop options (so you can view them in your own home). We also offer a kitchen design service which you can sign up for here https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/A...
Question: Do you have samples of Marmoleum borders and corners?
Answer: Forbo does not make samples of the borders or corners to see in person.
Question: I live in a rental and want to instal this over the current kitchen tile. The apartment is an open concept layout so basically I would be putting this over just part of a room. Is there a way to deal with edges that are open to the room (not a wall)? Or if I just left them, would the tiles/planks come apart?
Answer: Trim pieces for the Cinch Loc floors are made by an online company called Versatrim. You will need to order those from them. We have no association with them.
Question: can you get the product in sheets or rolls for a seamless look?
Answer: Marmoleum comes in a few forms. Glue down sheet goods https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/A... or Marmoleum glue down tiles https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/s... as well as the Cinch Loc. There are many beautiful colors in the glue down sheet goods. You may order small samples online for you to see in person to see which is most beautiful for your space.
Question: Can this be laid over kitchen floor that already has stick and peel vinyl tiles on it (tiles are well bonded) or would I need to tear up the tiles and /or install a new subfloor?
Answer: Yes, Marmoleum Click Cinch Loc can be applied directly over vinyl tiles as long as they are solid, smooth and flat. No underlayment or vapor barrier will be needed in this case.
Question: Does sunlight exposure affect flooring ?
Answer: Yes, sunlight exposure affects all flooring, including this one.
Question: Does the Marmoleum Click Cinch Loc make a clicking or tapping sound when walking on it? I have looked at floating vinyl plank floors and don't like the sound they make, even when backed with cork or foam. In the past, we used original Marmoleum squares glued on a concrete floor and it was rock solid for 20+ years, but this will be on a newly built OSB floor and we'd prefer not to glue. Thanks for any advice!
Answer: The thickness and density of a floating click-style floor is what determines how much sound is transferred by it. Most vinyl and laminate style floors are only 1/4" thick, very dense and act much like a drum skin to vibrate sound waves. Marmoleum Click Cinch Loc is 3/8" thick and comprised of three layers: a high density fiberboard core, a porous cork backing and a resilient surface layer of natural linoleum . The combination of these three different soft and hard densities causes constructive interference of the sound waves and makes for a quieter floor. It's certainly not as quiet as carpet or cork but is a not like laminate or vinyl either.Aside from the materials used to construct the floor, other factors can and do accentuate sound waves such as: the types of shoes you wear, the amount of absorption from the surrounding walls, furniture and ceilings, the height of your ceilings and the type of subfloor such as concrete vs. plywood. These additional factors should not be underestimated as they help transmit or diminish sound waves too.
Question: Do you recommend laying down underpayment?
Answer: We recommend you follow the installation instructions, which includes direction of what to do depending on if your installation is above or below grade, and what your subfloor consists of.This Substrate Evaluation & Preparation Guidelines download is invaluable in putting together your plan for installation: https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/c...
Question: Would this work for a home gym with heavy equipment?
Answer: There is a concern with using the Cinch Loc click under very heavy equipment. The fear is that the weight and how it's distributed will prevent the tiles from being able to properly expand and contract. The Marmoleum Real glue down sheet goods and Marmoleum MCT glue down tiles also come in a variety of colors and styles. They would both be a safer bet when you have something that heavy. You may order small samples online to see in person before making your final decision.
Question: Can you cut tiles if needed if the tiles are not an exact fit with the size of the space?
Answer: Yes, absolutely. You can cut with a jigsaw, hand saw or power saw to cut these pieces for a custom fit.
Question: how many tiles are in one box and how thick are the tile ?
Answer: 7 tiles per box, 3/8" thick.
Question: Are Marmoleum products NALFA certified?
Answer: Marmoleum is not a laminate floor, so it has no connection/certification with the North American Laminate Flooring Association (NALFA).
Question: What is the difference between marmoleum and cork planks?
Answer: Marmoleum Click Cinch Loc is a specific item: top layer is made from all natural ingredients (linseed oil, limestone, tree rosins, natural pigments, wood flour and jute), high-density fiberboard from recycled wood fiber in the middle, bottom layer of cork. This product comes in a wide range of colors, is flat, comes in 12x36 planks, and is an easy DIY floating floor installation."Plank Cork Flooring" is a broad category - so speaking in broad generalizations - by comparison Cork is a little more resilient (has a little more cush) than marmoleum. Most cork floors look like cork, and many of them have a texture to them. We sell some cork planks that are floating and others that are glue down. We also have a line of waterproof cork floors that are DIY floating floor installation - those can be seen here: https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/A... The best subjective comparison would be to review the product detail pages on our website, and order flooring samples so you can compare them side by side.
Question: How long does it take for the flooring to lose it's yellowish hue?
Answer: The oxidation process depends upon the amount of UV light exposure. If Marmoleum is installed in a room with many windows it could take 1-2 weeks. However, in a basement it could take several months. It is not obvious on all colors but is more common on blues and light grays. But it eventually changes to its original color. Bear in mind, this is a natural product and colors can vary.
Question: What is the color of the Marmoleum Click being used on the video? Trying to decide which color and the pics are not exact. Thank you!
Answer: We show three videos on the Click Cinch Loc page, which show a number of floors. For the best way to review the colors and how they will look in your space, we would recommend a Sustainable Sample Box : Marmoleum Click rental, which contains a fan deck of all currently available colors and everything you need to review the flooring possibilities of Cinch Loc, and includes a return shipping label and a coupon for $25 off your future Click Cinch Loc purchase.
Question: My apartment has ugly low pile indoor/outdoor carpeting. Can I put these tiles over it and remove when I move?
Answer: You may not install Cinch Loc or any floor over existing carpet. You will need to pull up the carpet and install the Cinch Loc on a substrate that is structurally sound, rigid, smooth, flat, clean, and permanently dry. Assuming you have a plywood or concrete substrate under the carpet, you may install over that as long as it's in good shape.
Question: Love the Lemon Zest color. Is this available in peel & stick and is it textured or smooth?
Answer: The Forbo Lemon Zest Marmoleum is available as a Click Cinch Loc Floating Floor and as a Glue Down sheet good and Marmoleum Modular glue down tile. None of these are peel and stick, though the floating Cinch Loc is a very DIY product. You can watch one of our employees install it blindfolded here : https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_co...
Question: I'm considering a new marmoleum click loc floor in my kitchen. I currently clean my kitchen floor with a bissell steam cleaner and distilled water..Am I able to clean marmoleum flooring with a steam cleaner using distilled water?
Answer: Yes, you can use a steam cleaner with distilled water. However, you should be careful not to focus the nozzle directly on the seams as excessive moisture may get between the planks. Marmoleum comes with a TopShield 2 sealer built into the surface, so you don't need much water to clean. Forbo recommends a very small amount of water, i.e. damp mop is all you need. Steam cleaners work well, but may not be necessary. Focus on prevention with rugs in front of and behind the entrances, pads under the furniture, and regular sweeping or vacuuming to remove the bulk of the dirt.
Question: How many boxes would I need for 13 x 10 room?
Answer: Marmoleum Click cinch loc comes in 12x36 panels (20.34 SF/box) and 12x12 squares (6.78 SF/box). 13x10 = 130 SF + 10% for waste and overage =143. That's 7 boxes of panels OR, 21 boxes of squares.Shipping will be $75 flat rate if you call this in. 250 SF, or more, will get you free shipping. If you order online, it will be $175 as our software assumes minimum freight charges for anything less than 250 SF. So, call in your order and it will only be $75 for our flat rate shipping.
Question: Where do you ship from?
Answer: Forbo has several warehouses, so it's dependent where stock of your color is located and proximity to you. Warehouses in Pennsylvania, Texas, Nevada and Toronto, Canada.
Question: We'd like to install the new "Click" flooring in our bathroom; however, there is a small incline in our 105 year-old home. Is there any flexibility to the Click flooring that would be pliable enough to go over the slight ridge where the incline meets the flat, level floor?
Answer: Marmoleum Click Cinch loc is a stiff panel. It will bridge over any dip but when walked on might flex too much and eventually come undone. Forbo allows 3/16" of deflection in the subfloor. If there is more than that, it should be filled or patched with a feather patching compound first, available at all hardware or box stores.
Question: Would this product be suitable for a dog kennel, laid on concrete floors with an in-floor radiant heat system? Would the heat pass through to heat the room, and how would the floor hold up if occasionally peed on?
Answer: Sorry, we do not offer any products suitable for dog kennels.
Question: Can Marmoleum Click Cinch Loc tiles and panels be installed over an existing marble tile floor - or does that floor have to come up first?
Answer: Yes, you may install Marmoleum Click Cinch Loc over your marble tile floor. Marmoleum Click Cinch Loc can be installed over any clean, dry, structurally sound subfloor. The subfloor must be flat to within 3/32" in 6' span.
Question: Does this product contain any lead or emit any radiation from the limestone?
Answer: Marmoleum does not contain nor emits any lead or radiation.
Question: Can this be used Outdoors? In screened in patios
Answer: Marmoleum Click Cinch Loc has a high density fiberboard core that cannot handle excessive moisture from rain or dew, and as such, is outside the range of Forbo's warranty coverage. Having said that, we have had customers that have used it in dry locations and have had success with it.Another option might be our new WaterProof Cork products. This is not made for outdoor use, but can handle moisture better than the Marmoleum click product.
Question: Can I install this product in a bathroom and/or kitchen where water will be getting on the floor often? Originally, I was thinking this type of product would come in sheets that would minimize water getting below the tiles. If it can be installed in a bathroom, is there a special way to install it to keep it from allowing water penetration to the subfloor?
Answer: There are actually a couple hundred options for glue down sheet goods in Marmoleum as I've attached the collections for you to peruse! Sheet goods are the optimum way to keep moisture away from the subfloor as the sheet goods are 79" wide allowing for minimal to no seams, depending upon the size of the room. You may order small samples online of any of the colors you love to see and experience in person before having your installer measure and tell you how much is needed to order.
Question: We have radiant heat within our stained concrete slab in our basement and I would like to replace with tile, marmoleum, or engineered wood - do you recommend marmoleum for this scenario?
Answer: Sure, most all of our floating floors will work over hydronic radiant heat. Some will accept electric radiant as well. Our first choice is Kahrs hardwood flooring from Sweden as it was intentionally designed for radiant flooring as the majority of Swedish people use radiant heat. We have had no issues with Marmoleum Click Cinch Loc flooring or most of our bamboo flooring. Make sure you double check the installation guidelines of each manufacturer to be sure.
Question: Where is it made?
Answer: The Forbo Marmoleum Click Cinch Loc is manufactured in Germany, from materials gathered from France, Netherlands and Portugal.
Question: Difference between Marmoleum and linoleum? How thick are the tiles?
Answer: Marmoleum is Forbo's name for their linoleum. The Cinch Loc Click tiles are 3/8 inch thick.
Question: I want to install marmoleum in my camper van, Do you know if this can be done? Are there considerations I should be aware of?
Answer: Yes, Marmoleum is very popular for camper vans. We recommend the sheeting which needs to be glued down to a stable smooth subfloor of plywood. It must be applied in warm conditions. Please review installation guidelines for further instructions.
Question: What rug types do you sell that are safe to use with Marmoleum Click Lock?
Answer: We offer wool area rugs made by EarthWeave, Nature's Carpet and Kaleen Pure Life that may be used directly over Marmoleum Click Cinch Loc.
Question: we are going to order this flooring but are there any transition pieces between floors?
Answer: Yes, color coordinating thresholds are available through a company called VersaTrim.com
Question: So we built 3 years ago. I have click in several rooms, but honestly the kitchen was the first time my installers ever installed it and it is not perfect. I'd like to relay it. i know i can relay most of what i have, but will probably need more... I am not worried about color matches because it's different stripes and i can make similar palates word... but is there a 'new locking' system? will this work with the 3 yr old stuff i have?
Answer: There is a new locking mechanism and no they are not compatible with each other unfortunately.
Question: IS this product warrantied over radiant heat?
Answer: The Forbo Cinch Loc is okay for use with hydronic radiant heat only. When installing over a concrete subfloor or any subfloor with underfloor heating, always cover the subfloor with a vapor barrier. The edges of the vapor barrier should extend up the walls at least 2" with a minimum overlap of 8". Before installing Marmoleum Click over a subfloor with underfloor heating, you must install a moisture barrier that is at least 0.2 mm thick. Note that this construction will slightly reduce heat radiation. The maximum permissible surface temperature for Marmoleum Click is 85 degrees F (27 degrees C). Keep in mind that loose rugs may function as heat accumulators and so raise the temperature of the Marmoleum Click floor above the maximum surface temperature allowed.
Question: How large are the samples in this kit and how large are the samples that can be ordered separately for $1 each?
Answer: The marmoleum cinch loc flooring samples are approximately 5 inches square (there are 2 of these in the sample box). The swatch book of colors included in the sample box kit measures 3 inches x 6 inches. The samples we ship individually are the same 5 inch square as what gets shipped in the sample box kit.
Question: Can I install this over existing slate tile?
Answer: Yes, you can. Marmoleum Click Cinch Loc can be installed on any clean, dry, structurally sound subfloor. The subfloor must be flat to within 3/32" in 6' span.
Question: Can I keep this sample kit for more than 10 days?
Answer: We will send out reminder emails to return the product. If after you receive the first message, you realize you want more time, you can contact us by e-mail or phone, and we will extend this date up to a week.
Question: How do the marmoleum planks hold up? Are they hard to upkeep? Do they gauge and dent easily? What about furniture sitting on the floor?
Answer: Marmoleum Click Cinch Loc panels or squares hold up very well to most normal foot traffic. Like all resilient or hard surface flooring, proper maintenance, furniture protectors, walk-off mats are all helpful to prevent wear and tear. This product is quite dense and resistant to most abuse, but heavy furniture or appliances that have a heavy point loads should always use wooden or plastic spacers to spread the load. Stiletto heels should also be avoided. Marmoleum has been used on the decks of battleships and on the stage of Radio City Music hall where the Rockettes performed for decades. If it can handle that type of abuse, it will probably work fine in your home. We recommend ordering some samples from our website so you can test for yourself.
Question: Hello. We ripped out an old floor that was glued down and the wood subfloor still has a thick rough layer of glue, Scraping might take weeks and still not get it clear and level. What is best option to prepare the floor for Marmoleum click tiles? Thank you.
Answer: The subfloor for Marmoleum click must be flat to within 3/32" of an in over a 6' span. If the glue is thicker than 3/32" then it will need to be removed or at least removed enough so it is no thicker than 3/32" of an inch. Here's the Marmoleum Click Installation Manual for your reference: https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/c...
Question: Can Marmoleum be used over radiant heat?
Answer: Yes! Marmoleum in the three different formats can be used over radiant heat. For the Marmoleum Cinch Loc floating planks or square Forbo says "When installing over a concrete subfloor or any subfloor with underfloor heating, always cover the subfloor with a vapor barrier. The edges of the vapor barrier should extend up the walls at least 2" with a minimum overlap of 8" at the seams." For Marmoleum Sheet or Tile Forbo recommends "Forbo flooring products may be installed over radiant heated floors providing the maximum surface temperature of the substrate does not exceed 85 degrees F (29 degrees C) under any condition of use. To enable a secure bond of the adhesive to the substrate, the radiant heating system should be turned off, or set to the lowest temperature, for a minimum of 48 hours prior to installation of the Forbo flooring product. The temperature of the substrate must not exceed 65 degrees F (18.3 degrees C) during the installation of the flooring material. If necessary, an alternate heating source should be used to maintain the room temperature at a minimum of 65 degrees F (18.3 degrees C) prior to, during, and for 72 hours after installation. The temperature of the radiant heating system can be increased 72 hours following the installation. When raising the floor temperature, do so gradually so the substrate and flooring material can adapt to the temperature change together. A rapid temperature change could result in bonding problems."
Question: I am thinking about getting new flooring. I need the top stiff enough that wheels from a wheelchair, office chairs wheels, walker wheels will not sink down making it harder to roll over. I would like cork underlayment under to make walking and standing easier on your joints. Could I put cork underlayment on any of the three flooring options listed below (if so, will you please tell me how thick the cork underlayment could be and the best density? Option 1) Marmoleum Click (engineered with backing of wood and cork). Option 2) Marmoleum Sheet (glue down, no hard backing) Option 3) Marmoleum Tile (glue down, no hard backing)Also, which one would be the best for wet areas such as the kitchen and bathroom?
Answer: The Marmoleum Click Cinch Loc is ideal for wheelchairs, etc. which is why it is so popular in hospitals and schools. It is a resilient floor that is stiff enough to make walking around easy, but cushy enough due to the cork underlayment to be easy on the knees and feet. No need to add any more cork underneath it unless you want to.The Marmoleum sheet and tile are glued down and will have much less resiliency. Generally we don't recommend using cork underneath them. They are better than concrete or tile, but not as good as the Cinch Loc product in terms of softness.People use these in kitchens and bath areas as long as they caulk around the perimeter to keep water from getting underneath. The click mechanism is so tight and perfect that water will not soak in from the top surface. It cleans very easily and is repairable.
Question: I am trying to decide on whether to purchase Volcanic Ash in the 12-inch click or the 12-inch glue-down tile. I know the price difference is key, but which one is more durable? It will be installed in a kitchen. Spills will happen, however I noted that it said to clean up spills before 30 minutes had passed...so I just wanted to check before I made my decision.
Answer: Marmoleum Modular Tile or MCT Tile require additional adhesive, a perfectly flat subfloor and more labor. The Marmoleum Click CinchLoc requires no glue, is 2-3x faster to install, and there may be less subfloor preparation required. As a consequence, they may be very similar in price. The Marmoleum surface is the same for all products. The MCT Tile, which is the least expensive, has a 2.0mm thickness while all others are 2.5mm. Same warranty, same performance, same maintenance, same durability. Spill will not affect either as the adhesive is specially formulated to prevent moisture from getting underneath the tile and for the Cinch Loc product, the click mechanism is so tight, moisture does not soak between the planks. We recommend purchasing samples so you can see for yourself.
