According to ECOS: The SDS is a document which is used to describe how a consumer should deal with the product in the event of it being spilled or otherwise used. It is not designed to give a full analysis of the product. UL, who produced the SDS did not analyze all the ingredients. This analysis is done by other certifications such as DECLARE which are produced specifically for this purpose. The DECLARE label provides ingredient transparency and verifies that ECOS is red list free. https://ecospaints.net/ecos-paints-earns-the-prestigious-declare-label-for-tran
sparency-of-ingredients-safety-eco-friendlinessECOS products conforms to ASTM-D4236, specifically concerning oral toxicity, skin irritation and respiratory effects. They are ZERO VOC and conforms to CDPH 01350 (VOC emissions test taken at 11, 12, & 14 days for classroom & office use). The carcinogenic reference is probably for the TiO2, titanium dioxide which is a potential carcinogen if inhaled in a powder form on a regular basis. In a paint, even dried and sanded, there is no way to inhale TiO2 powder. The same type of warning of potential carcinogens is given for saw dust resulting from cutting of raw wood flooring or other wood millwork. From a health standpoint, especially with those suffering from asthma, allergies or chemical sensitivities, our experience with all of ECOS paint products over the past 6 years has been excellent and first class. Same applies to their performance and their ability to tint colors.
