Bioshield AquaResin stain is mainly used indoors, but can be used outdoors. It is best used under covered areas and not exposed directly to the elements. Two better alternatives would be our Vermont Natural Coatings Exterior Stain (water-based) which is a stain and sealer all in one, and our Rubio Monocoat Hybrid Oil (zero VOC). Both of these will hold up much better in all climatic conditions. Darker colors always resist UV better than lighter or clear coatings. As always, the surface should be clean dry and free of previous finishes. Light sanding always helps to open the pores and absorb the coatings better. Cure times vary based on application method, temperature and humidity. The Vermont Natural Coatings Exterior stain will dry much faster with the least odor. Our tests have shown their longevity to be about equal in direct sun, rain and snow.
