You *could* use this water proofer on an outdoor picnic table that is raw wood (it would not work over wood that is already finished with some other coating), but to clarify what it will do for that table, it will make it waterproof, period. It will not protect that table from UV rays, and it will not protect that table from abrasion. The table will be waterproof (water on table will bead on the surface rather than soaking in) but it will age and turn grey and will appear unfinished with a raw wood looking surface. For outdoor tables, we prefer something with abrasion resistance and at least a modicum of protection from UV. You could cover with an exterior satin paint (Such as AFM Safecoat All Purpose Exterior Satin) for UV Protection and then coat over that with AFM Safecoat EXT Exterior Polyureseal Clear for abrasion resistance. In case it needs to be said, the Vermont Exterior Water Proofer is for exterior applications only. It is not suitable for an interior table.
