This product penetrates and waterproofs raw wood that is outdoors. But is not going to coat thickly and does not have a clear, plastic-like appearance. It sounds like you want an epoxy, and the Vermont Exterior Water Proofer is absolutely not that. Generally speaking, you can have a penetrating finish that does not have a clear, plastic like finish OR,you can have a topical (non-penetrating) coat which does have a clear, plastic like finish. We need more project details before making a recommendation. Is this over wood? Exterior or Interior? When you say "coats thickly" - how thick do you mean?
