Yes as long as the wood is clean, dry, porous and has not been previously sealed. Usually a light sanding is required to remove any contaminants, open the pores and provide a good clean substrate. For a longer lasting finish use one of the colored PolyWhey Exterior Stains by Vermont Natural Coatings. Clear coatings allow the sun to go right through and destroy the surface of the wood within 1-2 years in direct sun. The pigments will block UV much better.
