For the exterior of the raised garden beds, we recommend the Vermont Natural Coatings PolyWhey as it is both a penetrating water proofer and creates a durable coating on the surface. It is a stain and sealer all in one. (The Water Proofer by comparison has no UV protection, no abrasion resistance, it only waterproofs the wood, period.)For the interior of the bed, the part covered by soil, we recommend the AFM SafeCoat Dynoseal. It is a waterproofing membrane that prevents moisture intrusion from the soil into the wood and stops leaching of the cedar tannins into the soil. This has become a very popular product for raised garden beds.
