"There are two products we generally recommend, both of which are safe for you and your environment and protect very well against water and UV. Neither contains synthetic UV protectors. Darker colors generally protect better against UV, since they have more pigments. Vermont Natural Coatings Exterior Penetrating Stain is a water-based, non-toxic stain and sealer that holds up very well. One gallon covers 200-400 SF per coat. Usually two coats are needed, especially on new raw wood. 45 g/l VOC but has virtually no odor when dried.Rubio Monocoat Hybrid Exterior Wood Protector is a zero-VOC exterior oil stain that works just as well. It is a penetrating stain that will work better over previously oiled products and holds up just as long. One liter covers 322 to 530 SF. Only one coat is needed and there are no solvents."
