can I use this on synthetic fabric / carpet like covering cat poles? 2. they don't have a backing so should I just use this, or both in the kit the way many of the instructions say to use both in conjunction?

If you are trying to clean and seal the off-gassing from synthetic carpet, it will be much easier if you remove it from the cat pole. We recommend using all three products in this system: shampoo, carpet seal and lock out as they all have different functions.
