If your floor is raw wood and has no finish then you can use our AFM Naturals Oil Wax or Rubio Monocoat Oil Plus 2C. Both of these are natural oils which are penetrating sealers that are relatively easy to apply and will result in a long-term finish. They both will require routine maintenance and re-oiling every 2-5 years depending on your traffic patterns, temperature and humidity. Another option is our AFM Polyureseal BP. This is a non-toxic polyurethane which is also relatively easy to apply, and produce a topical coating that is long lasting and requires less maintenance. Now, if you already have a finish on your floor that is partially worn but not all the way to bare wood, then you can lightly sand the surface to remove the gloss and provide some tooth to the floor, then use one of our polyurethanes. The oil-based products, however, will generally not work well over previously varnished, lacquered or polyurethaned surfaces as they are water-based and will not bond well with oil-based finishes. You may need to professionally sand first to get the best long term adhesion.
