A lot depends on what you wish to protect the coffee table from. The bioshield wood counter finish is a good choice if you are not putting things on the coffee table, and have no rough housing near the coffee table (it's a penetrating oil, so will protect the table from water droplets, but will not do much against abrasion). If you need something with more grit that can stand up to abuse and abrasion, you would want a topical finish - either AFM Safecoat Poly BP (small children playing with toys on the table, dogs, cats, roughhousing, etc.) or Acrylacq (stands up okay to light abrasion, fingerprints). In any case, use coasters, clean up spills as they happen, and keep sharp objects away from the surface.
