I need to reseal my exterior front door as is recommended by my builder yearly. I noticed in the directions on this product that it shouldn't be used over oil-based finishes. I don't know if my door has an oil- based finish or not. Am I safe to use this?

AFM Safecoat, EXT Exterior Polyureseal Clear should not be used over an existing oil-based coating. It is a topical sealer for use over unfinished or water-based painted or stained wood. You can test the current finish on your door by applying a few drops of water to the existing surface. The water will bead up on an oil-based stain, whereas it will soak into a water-based stain.
