The answer depends upon how damp or dry your basement is. Bioshield clay paint is a non-toxic very porous paint and contains no biocides or fungicides. It produces a matt finish and is fine for most walls that are dry and properly primed. If, however, your basement is musty, damp and prone to moisture intrusion, we would suggest our Caliwel Home and Office paint. This is a non-toxic zero VOC paint that kills mold and mildew and prevents its growth for 6-7 years or more. It contains calcium hydroxide (ground up limestone) which has a high pH of 12.4. Mold will not grow on this type of surface. First prime the concrete block with our ECOS Universal Primer and then apply two coats of Caliwel Home and Office paint.
