You say pressure treated wood should sit for 6 months. Sit inside in dry environment? Outside? What is the problem if I don't wait 6 months?

Yes, 6 months or longer because the chemicals inside the wood need to season. Let sit outdoors and expose to the sun. If you don't wait, then all bets are off as the chemicals will ooze out and affect the finish. This is standard operating procedure for all ext. stains or finishes.
