This is a water proofer, so it will help against the sprinklers but it has nothing in it that will protect the wood from UV rays on the sun. So the wood will continue to look raw and will gray and age, but it will be waterproof (water will bead on the surface rather than soaking in).For the best protection, we would advise exterior paint, it will protect the wood against water and sun, and require minimal upkeep. Downside would be it would cover the look of wood. AFM Transitional Primer covered with AFM All Purpose Exterior Satin Paint. You can add AFM EXT Polyureseal on top of that for an extra layer of abrasion resistance. If you want the wood texture to remain visible, then the next treatment we would recommend is stain. The darker the color, the more protection it will provide versus UV rays. Downside, based on the amount of sun and weather hitting it, it will require periodic upkeep coats every few years. Rubio Monocoat Oil Plus 2C or Vermont Natural Coatings PolyWhey Exterior Penetrating Stain.
