Graying is caused by UV light, and the only thing you can use to prolong the wood from graying is to either cover it up altogether (i.e. paint) or use a pigmented stain, which will change the look of the wood. The Water Proofer is a penetrating product that does not change the look of the wood (no pigment, so it offers no protection from graying) and is only visible when you get the wood wet (water will bead up on the surface as opposed to soaking into the wood). A better fit would be to use a tinted stain. which would alter the color of the wood, but would provide a level of UV protection. For your situation we would recommend Vermont Natural Coatings PolyWhey Exterior Stain, which does come in a Lakeside Cedar color. We sell samples if you would like to see how that will affect the look of your cedar porch before committing to the entire project.
