Sorry for the delayed answer here. It's a puzzler and I wanted to check with AFM's technical department before responding. If you are certain that the source of the smell is coming from old glue residue that is beneath your new carpet, then your best course of action (if possible) would be to take up the new carpet and coat the subfloor with the glue residue with something like AFM Safecoat Hard Seal, which could block the VOCs left over from the old glue residue, or we do have some mastic removers we sell which could remove the glue altogether depending on what your subfloor is. We have FranMar 500MR Mastic Remover for concrete subfloors... for example. The carpet seal product is formulated specifically to work with the chemicals within the synthetic carpet (and ideally to be used as part of the Comprehensive 3-Part Carpet Shampoo and Sealing System), and NOT with things like adhesives and other outlying sources. If your new carpet is glued down already, you could try to use the carpet seal, while it may make a difference, it's not going to completely fix your situation.
