If you are talking about Shou Sugi Ban woodwork (the Japanese art of preserving and finishing wood using fire and oil) we have concerns about that, as the charred wood can flake off and get onto clothes, surfaces, and can even be breathed in. With that in mind, if you were to THOROUGHLY wash, scrub, and brush as much of the loose charred wood off as possible - then you could try AFM Safecoat Acrylacq. We strongly recommend you buy a sample and test it to see what the seal is like on a small area. You are exploring unknown territory for us, let us know how it goes.
