This is a waterproofer, so this product can waterproof your posts, but it provides absolutely zero UV (sun) protection and zero abrasion resistance. If you use the waterproofer these posts will continue to look like raw wood, and will age/grey accordingly, the only time the use of this product is evident is when the wood gets wet, water will bead on the surface, rather than soaking in.If you want something that will offer a degree of waterproofness and UV protection, you can stain your wood (Vermont PolyWhey or Rubio Monocoat Hybrid Wood Protector). A good rule of thumb to keep in mind, the clearer/less pigmented/lighter the finish color, the less protection against the sun. This is why a stain will need to be reapplied every few years, and why paint can last much longer as it is opaque, with the obvious trade off you can no longer see the wood.Home Depot posts are probably pressure treated (unless you specifically bought wood that was not pressure treated), which means they are already saturated with chemical and pesticides. If this is the case, best to wait at least 6-8 months for the wood to dry out before applying anything to them.We sell samples of all our products, and we recommend you test before hand to make sure you love the finish and look before committing to the entire project.
