Can this be used on the outside of concrete water troughs being used to grow aquatic plants? All sides of troughs are 3 inches thick. The concrete is fiber reinforced, unsealed and porous. The objective of sealing from the outside would be to reduce permeability/slow down water loss through the concrete. The sealer failing over time is not an issue for me. Or, is there another product better suited for this goal that will not change the look of the cured concrete? Thank you!

Yes, this will work fine. It will not change the look or feel of the concrete. Just make sure you saturate the concrete. This could take 3-4 coats or more depending on porosity. Make sure the surface is dry. Drier the better. One gallon will cover 200 SF with 3-4 coats.
