What is the core of the waterproof cork and how do they make it waterproof? Being E1 certified, it seems like that means it is a wood core which means some natural formaldehyde (none added as per the ingredients sheet).

WaterProof cork utilizes cork that is impregnated with High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) which is a food grade plastic used in milk and yogurt containers. There is no VOCs or formaldehyde emissions from this product.
