My community garden in Bellows Falls, VT, is looking for a soil- and food-safe product to seal fencing near the ground and below the ground. Is this product (Hard Oil #9) appropriate? Can it be mixed with Pine tar for treating non pressure treated wood below ground? Also, how long might the protection last on pine boards? Thank you for your help.

We'd not recommend the BioShield Hard Oil for on or below grade application, it is unlikely that it would hold up long at all. AFM SafeCoat, DynoSeal, Item #1022, is the best we've found for such an application. We have customers regularly use if for their garden beds, underneath the soil. It is extremely long lasting and does not leach anything into the soil. If you'd like to see what it is like, we offer 3-4oz samples at $9.95 for testing purposes.
