The Vermont Natural Coatings Penetrating Water Proofer will do one thing and one thing only, it will waterproof raw wood. This product will not give any degree of abrasion resistance or UV protection - so depending on where in the country your pergola is, and what kind of sun exposure it gets, and whether you need any abrasion resistance (from wind kicking up dust or sand, etc.) then this might be the solution for you.If, on the other hand, you need UV protection, abrasion resistance AND water resistance on your pergola, we would recommend instead PolyWhey Exterior Penetrating Stain, Rubio Monocoat Exterior Wood Protector or AFM Safecoat EXT Exterior Polyureseal Clear.
