Yes, we recommend this for the outside and not the inside as it will not last long when exposed to moisture in the soil. It will protect from moisture but because it is clear there is little UV protection so it will need to be re-applied in two years. Vermont Natural Coating PolyWhey Ext. Stain offers several colors and the pigments will block the UV much better (however, the Stain is not a waterproofer, like this product is).For the inside we recommend our AFM Dynoseal which is a waterproofing membrane that prevents moisture below the soil from rotting the wood and it prevents the tannins and terpenes from leaching into the soil.
