We are having our varnished solid wood cabinets sanded, primed and painted. I have previously oiled them. Our contractor said we need a high bond primer. Would any of the AFM Safecoat primers work? The paint will be water based, probably AFM Safecoat. Which paint would you recommend also?

If all the old varnish is stripped or sanded down to bare wood, then use one coat of AFM Transitional Primer + 2 coats of AFM Zero Voc semi-gloss paint. You could also use 1 coat Ecolacq Sandable Primer + 2 coats Ecolacq which was made for furniture and cabinetry. It is a tintable lacquer substitute and is more durable than the Semi-gloss paint.
