I need to paint the steel beams in my basement We put our house in 30 years ago and never bothered to paint them and now it is obvious they need paint and I believe primer. Is your paint safe to use in a low ventilated area? I have fans and a couple of small windows. Will pilots need to be shut off prior to painting? Is the paint a paint and primer or is that 2 different products?

AFM paint is fine in a low ventilated area, but you will need airflow to get the paint to dry, no airflow and it will take longer to dry. The Zero VOC Paint is a paint and not a primer. If you are going over raw/uncovered steel you will want to use AFM Safecoat MetalCoat Metal Primer first over your rust-free, clean, dry steel surface. You can then follow that up with the Zero VOC Paint. We sell samples if you'd like to test. You can leave the pilots on provided you are not painting directly onto metal that the flame is hitting.
