Rubio Monocoat is a non-toxic zero VOC stain and sealer all in one. Most adhesives are water-based, but not all. Normally, bonding two pieces of wood requires sanding off any finish first. That means raw wood to raw wood. That will provide the best bond. A lot depends on the type of glue, too. You can always test this first.
