I would like to use this to paint my old wooden bedroom furniture that has a finish on it. it's important that there are no paint smells coming off of it, as the headboard and night table are close to my head when sleeping. I don't want to sand it down. Can I just use the regular safecoat paint without sanding and using the primer? Does the primer have more of a smell than the regular paint? Primers usually have stronger smells.

If you don't want to sand, then priming and painting is required. AFM Transitional Primer does have an odor which dissipates after several days. ECOS primer has less of an odor. Both are non-toxic.
