We have a table being built from red oak to be a base for our farmhouse sink. This will go into our laundry room and be consistently used. I need a stain and a top coat. While the Vermont Natural Coatings PolyWhey Exterior Penetrating Wood Stain is specified as an Exterior stain by the manufacturer, it is non-toxic with a low VOC level. In theory, you could use it for your laundry table. However, we recommend using AFM SafeCoat, DuroStain Pro which is an interior stain. Once dry, you would apply either AFM Acrylacq or AFM Polyureseal BP over the stain to give it a clear, durable finish. These AFM clear finishes would last longer and be more water resistant.
