This is a penetrating waterproofer, it is strictly designed to waterproof raw wood, but gives no topical coverage whatsoever (the wood will continue looking like raw wood, it only works when it gets wet, water will bead on the surface rather than soaking in) and it does not work with paint at all.As you are painting the birdhouse, we recommend non toxic, water based AFM paints. AFM Transitional Primer first, then go over that with AFM Exterior Satin. If you wanted an extra layer of abrasion resistance you could go over that with AFM EXT Exterior Polyureseal Clear. We sell sample sizes of all the above so you can test and get a feel for what the finished project will look like before committing to a whole can.
