Bioshield Wood Counter Finish is an oil based product designed to go over raw or oil treated wood, not paint. Paint is generally not recommended for countertops as they do not have much abrasion resistance. Sliding dishes across them will scratch the paint and eventually wear it off. If you are bound and determined to paint, you could try AFM Safecoat Polyureseal BP, which is made for flooring. Adding three coats will add a tough layer of protection from moisture and abrasion. One gallon covers about 350-400 SF per coat. Before you apply the Polyureseal BP, make sure the surface has been lightly sanded or etched so it provides some tooth for good adhesion. Good luck!
