The Beauty of Wide Plank Hickory, Made in the USA

The Kahrs Estate Collection is a new line of wide-plank engineered hardwood flooring that emphasizes a blend of timeless elegance with European sophistication and American craftsmanship. It's noteworthy for being Kahrs' first collection produced in the USA. Like all of Kahrs products, it sets the highest standard for safety and sustainability. Featured here is 5-inch Hickory. Also available are Hard Maple in 5-inch wide boards, and Red Oak available in 7.5-inch wide boards.

Many users and environmental consultants recommend Kährs, particularly for chemically sensitive customers, due to its focus on indoor air quality and sustainability. Our experience of 25 years has proven that Kahrs flooring is high quality, very durable, and an excellent long-term investment.

Why We Like It

Kahrs has been our favorite hardwood floor for 25 years for all the right reasons. Their floors are particularly well-suited for our chemically sensitive customers who demand the cleanest and safest environments. Many environmental consultants recommend Kahrs because it checks all the boxes for indoor air quality and sustainability. This new collection will not disappoint, as it is Kahrs' highest quality top-of-the-line product.

Features & benefits

Health and Environmental Certifications:

  • Low Emissions: The non-toxic adhesives contain no added urea formaldehyde, isocyanates, or hazardous air pollutants, and their water-based finishes emit ultra-low VOCs.
  • Third-Party Certified: This is backed by certifications from reputable organizations such as FloorScore, Nordic Swan Ecolabel (strictest European standard), French A+, and M1 classification (Finland's highest indoor air quality standard).
  • Stringent Standards: It meets or exceeds CARB2 (California Air Resources Board Phase 2) and E1 (European standard for formaldehyde emissions), considered among the strictest globally. Some sources even claim formaldehyde emissions as low as 0.0015 ppm.
  • Sustainability: Kahrs has a long-standing commitment to sustainability, sourcing wood from well-managed forests compliant with FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) standards.

Construction and Materials:

  • 100% American Hardwood: The collection features the premium American wood species Hickory.
  • Engineered Wood Construction: Kahrs, the inventor of engineered hardwood for some 35 years ago, uses a 3-layer cross-ply structure that provides extreme stability and durability. The core is typically Red Maple Plywood.
  • Dimensions: Each Hickory plank is 5" wide by 5/8" thick, with random lengths ranging from 17 1/2" to 95 1/2".

Aesthetics and Design:

  • Clean and Modern: The collection offers a clean, beautiful, modern design with classic craftsmanship, distinguishing itself from more rustic Kahrs collections like Smaland and Classic Nouveau.
  • Premium Styles: It comes in a beautiful array of trending styles with elegant finishes and rich textures.
  • Design Features: Common design features include micro-beveled or beveled 4-sided edges and brushed textures.

Durability and Installation:

  • Stable in all climates: Kahrs wide-plank flooring holds up well in any type of climate or elevation from coast to coast. It is also specially designed for radiant heated subfloors.
  • Long-Lasting Finish: Kahrs' proprietary finish is designed for long-lasting protection against daily wear, maintaining the floor's sophisticated appearance.
  • Re-sandable: The floors can be sanded twice if needed, extending their lifespan.
  • Versatile Installation: The Tongue & Groove locking system allows for floating, glue-down, or nail-down installation methods, suitable for below, above, or on-grade applications.
  • Warranty: Kahrs typically offers a 25-year residential wear-through warranty and a lifetime structural warranty for their 5/8" engineered flooring. Commercial warranties are generally 5 years. It's important to check specific warranty details for the Estate Collection, as they can vary by product and application (residential vs. commercial).
