Durable synthetic multi-width roof shake

EcoStar Niagara Cedar Shake is made from virgin and recycled plastic and rubber to form a highly durable long-lasting roofing tile. These tiles look just like real shake and came in 12 standard colors. However, unlike wooden cedar shake, they require little to no maintenance and will not crack, split, rot or mold and mildew. It also comes with a 50 year limited warranty.

2025 Name Change: Majestic Niagara Shake is now known as Niagara Shake

Manufactured in the USA, Niagara Shake provides enhanced resistance to harsh weather conditions, including wind, driving rain and hail. They're more durable than other roofing materials in terms of resistance to freeze-thaw, denting and breakage from falling trees or from working on their surface.

Niagara Shakes are approximately 3/4" thick x 22 inches long and come in an even mixture of 7', 8", 9" and 10" widths. They have high impact resistance and are have a class 4 hail rating which is the highest rating. They also satisfy a class C fire rating. (Higher fire ratings are available at request).

These shakes install like regular shakes with two stainless steel ring shank nails (EcoStar fasteners) either with a hand drive style or pneumatic coil. They require a standard 30 lbs felt or synthetic underlayment (EcoStar Aqua Guard) and require an ice and water shield (EcoStar Glacier Guard) for the rakes, valleys, ridges, hips, eaves and any protrusions.

Compared to the EcoStar Seneca Shake: EcoStar Niagara Shake has a ribbed back and is about 3/4" thick, compared to the Traditional (Seneca) Shake, which is solid but only 1/4" thick. The Niagara is less expensive and has a more defined profile that produces nicer shadow lines on the roof. The Niagara Shake is also longer and allows for a larger exposure 9" or 10" on sloped roofs that are 6/12 or greater, versus 7" or 8" exposure for the Seneca Shake. This means fewer pieces are required and results in a faster installation time.

When compared to cedar shakes, the Niagara Shake has a higher initial cost but a lower lifecycle cost. It requires little or no maintenance compared to annual maintenance and regular cleaning. The life expectancy depends on various factors, including climate and maintenance but generally speaking, Niagara should last twice as long. It will also retain its color much longer and will not rot, split, crack, or weather to gray like cedar shake. Finally, it is made from recycled content, so no trees are harvested.

NOTE: must be installed in temperatures above 45 degrees F.

Why We Like It

Anyone who has owned a shake roof knows how expensive and labor intensive it can be to keep it looking good. This recycled product offers a reliable alternative with all the benefits, including less impact on the environment.

The beefy thickness makes these shake tiles look even more like the real thing and creates a highly protective barrier to wind, water, hail and just about anything that might ordinarily damage a roof. Not only does this roofing offer great curb appeal, but it also adds significant value to your home.
