Question: Since these are solid bamboo planks, will they expand and contract more with changes in humidity than the engineered bamboo planks?
Answer: It's true that engineered bamboo (and hardwood, cork and marmoleum) are more stable than solid wood. Both solid and engineered expand and contract due to humidity, but the amount of expansion also depends on the width of the panel, size of the room, temperature and humidity. A solid bamboo floor is always nailed or glued down to reduce the expansion to a minimum. An engineered bamboo that is floated will expand more. In a 6' wide bathroom a solid bamboo will have minimal expansion, however, an engineered floor will expand 1/8 to 1/4". However, in a 30' long room, both will expand more and need more space around the perimeter.
Question: Not treated with Aluminium oxide ?
Answer: Most all strand bamboo uses aluminum oxide underneath many layers of UV cured acrylic urethane finish. This does not present a respiratory hazard during normal use as it is fully cured.
Question: Is the bamboo flooring water resistant - wide plank t&g strand?
Answer: Per the Installation and Maintenance guide, https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/A... , "Avoid wet spills--Bamboo flooring has properties similar to wood flooring, so never leave any standing water on your floor. In case of a spill be sure to clean up the mess as quickly as possible. "
Question: What's the best color for walls with very light grey floors?
Answer: That is really a matter of opinion. Your best bet is to order small samples/sample box to see the colors in person in your light and space. You may order that sample box online.
Question: Is the finish for this flooring made with water-based polyurethane or oil-based polyurethane?
Answer: Per the product page, "Extremely durable - super dense 3800-5000 on the Janka scale; matte abrasion-resistant finish, aluminum-oxide enhanced UV-cured acrylic urethane with scratch-resistant hardened topcoat. "
Question: How does it hold up with a large dog in the house?
Answer: On the spectrum of hardness/toughness, strand bamboo is tougher and harder than hardwood flooring. It should hold up quite well to large dogs. We would just recommend you keep their toenails trimmed to help avoid scratching.
Question: Is this product recyclable and biodegradable?
Answer: No, the GBS Tongue and Groove Solid Bamboo Flooring is not considered or certified as biodegradable or recyclable.
Question: What assurance is there that the Chinese harvesters and manufacturers are well paid and well treated?
