We’ve provided several answers to questions related to Stains and Sealers and Finishes , see some other helpful Q&A related to this product.
Question: We are looking to coat and seal the butcher block surface of school art room tables? They are already sanded. Would this product be appropriate?
Answer: That is a very lovely finish. But it probably won't hold up to heavy duty use in the school on art tables. Instead, AFM Safecoat, 2K Urethane would be viable option. It's much stronger as well as a low odor, water-based coating that is exceptionally durable, highly resistant to abrasion, moisture, stains, chemicals. Order small samples online first to test to make certain it's something the school will like and approve.
Question: Im considering applying this to 2x6 pine t&g flooring. It's for a new build. I'm hoping to coat all sides with 1 coat, install, and then protect with floor protection (cardboard builders board) to help mitigate any potential damage during the rest of the construction. After all construction is finished I would sand the floor and reapply oil/wax. Does this seem like an appropriate approach? If so, how long would you say I need to wait between applying the first coat prior to install and covering with builder board (to avoid any issues with curing under builder board). Thanks for your help!
Answer: It would be better to apply two coats, wet on wet as instructed in the installation guidelines. Then apply the building paper during construction. Then re-buff when you remove the paper (if necessary). You only need one coat on the underside and sides but two coats on the top. If you only use one coat, it will cure out over the next few weeks and months during construction. Once cured and sealed the wood will not absorb a second coat and will simply build up on the surface which you don't want.
Question: Is the coverage listed for 1 coat or both coats? I will be finishing 1100 sq ft of 2x6 t&g pine, both sides (total 2200 sq ft of surface)
Answer: The coverage listed is for 1 coat. For 2,200 SF of surface area we would recommend at least 11-12 gallons for two coats.
