Hello, I have one of these boards but recently found out the resin that was used is phenolic formaldehyde. Just the mention of anything formaldehyde gave me a scare so I searched the web for answers. The internet being like it is I found plenty of "organic mom" blogs saying the use of these boards is basically equivalent to poisoning your entire family. So I was very surprised to see you guys selling them. I am a customer of your paints and sealants and I trust you, so seeing this makes me feel better - but perhaps you can explain what makes these boards safe and nontoxic for food prep. I understand urea formaldehyde is the bad guy but why is the phenol variety ok? Is it possible it could leach into food during use?

Epicurean cutting boards are created from a paper composite material (layers of paper). Their material is made from many layers of high-quality custom craft paper. The rolls of paper are infused with a resin before being cut to length and laid by hand. Each sheet is carefully stacked, alternating the direction of the paper, to achieve the ultimate balance and stability. The stacks are pressed under even heat and pressure, bonding the layers of paper together and curing the product. The sheets are then slowly cooled to produce a solid, stable food-safe sheet material called Richlite.Richlite holds GREENGUARD Certification which ensures that a product has met some of the world's most rigorous and comprehensive standards for low emissions of VOCs. Richlite's formaldehyde emissions are well below EPA's Formaldehyde Emission regulations. The stated allowable amount of formaldehyde emissions are .05ppm; Richlite's emissions, as tested by UL and certified by GREENGUARD, are <0.00lppm.
