I have a problem with a dark tar and gravel roof that doesn't leak, it just gets full sun and makes an incredibly hot attic (over 100 degrees) and huge summer AC bills. The attic has unpainted rafter boards. Can I apply this with some semi-gloss paint to the exterior on top of the tar and gravel? Secondly, I saw you advise another person to apply the paint inside the attic. Can I also spray the unpainted wood rafters on the underside of the roof to get more protection?

Application on the outside may or may not adhere well and may eventually wear off. Application on the inside is recommended and will provide almost the same results without the eventual wearing. Yes, spray on the roof deck as well as rafters. No problem.
