We’ve provided several answers to questions related to Building Materials , see some other helpful Q&A related to this product.
Question: is this product resistant to fungus? Want to use in classroom but do not want to introduce a material that could create a mold issue overtime
Answer: Bulletin Board provides a self-sanitizing quality in the form of a bactericidal effect. Independent testing has shown that a sterile zone around the material inhibits the growth of organisms such as staphylococcus aureas and Clostridium difficile.
Question: Which side of Forbo is finished for fabrication?
Answer: The smooth side should be facing out while the side with the jute should be laid into the adhesive.
Question: What is the weight of the bulletin board material per square foot/meter?
Answer: 10 lbs per square yard
Question: Can I draw on paper with this underneath?
Answer: It's a very soft surface, so we suggest you first order samples to see color but also to "practice drawing" on and see how it reacts.
Question: Do you sell the J-Mold trim for the Forbo Bulletin Board material?
Answer: Forbo said that is not available .
Question: What size are the cork samples? Thanks!
Answer: They vary in size from 4x4" or so, and some larger (based largely on the width of the flooring).
Question: If I want it to be more white, can I order any color and paint the surface a white of my choosing?
Answer: No. This is an oil based product, and it is not formulated to be painted over.
Question: Hello! I notice in the description that you mention the product may smell of linseed oil for a short time. Does it smell of cork at all?
Answer: The best way to know is to order a small sample of it and test it for scent using your own nose.
Question: Hi, do they have flame retardants? are the completely VOC free?
Answer: The pinboard bulletin board has no added flame retardants. In testing this material rate Class B when tested in accordance to ASTM E 84/NFPA 255, Standard Test Method for Surface Burning Characteristics. FSC1 - 54; SD - 316 when tested in accordance to CAN/ULC S102, Standard Test Method for Flame Spread Rating and Smoke Development. (Things that share that Class B rating would be whole hardwood materials like Cedar, Hemlock and Spruce). With regard to VOC. Yes, the pinboard is VOC free, with the slight caveat that some people do have a reaction to the natural scent of linseed oil. We recommend you test for personal tolerances with samples before placing your order.
Question: We are looking for a self healing wall covering for a co-op gallery. Could this product be adhered to drywall and used for hooks and nails? We change out the paintings on a regular basis and don't want to patch walls or have nail holes.
Answer: This is only 1/4" thick, and it is ONLY rated for push pins and thumbtacks. As such I do not believe it would not hold up to nails.
Question: How much insulation does this provide on walls?
Answer: Forbo does not provide an R-value of this product probably because it is not intended for insulating walls or ceilings. It is a unique material that combines linoleum and cork.Cork has a thermal resistance of R-3.6 to R-4.2 per inch. This is a better value range than loose fiberglass (R-2.2 to R-2.9 per inch) and fiberglass batts (R-2.9 to R-3.8 per inch). The thermal conductivity of cork is 0.036-0.38 W/mk and its density is 7.0 to 7.5 pounds per cubic foot.Bulletin Board Pinboard Linoleum is 1/4" thick and "if it was just cork" it would have an R Value of .90 to 1.05 but because it is denser, our estimate is that it is more than both of these numbers. How much is anyone's guess.
Question: Can the material be directly glued to walls or is an edging needed for a clean finish?
Answer: Here are the application instructions. It is always best to follow what the manufacturer states for install. https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/c...
Question: what's best method to cut ...is sharp utility knife the way?
Answer: Please have a look at the installation instructions: https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/c... They recommend a Stanley knife with straight and hooked blades.
Question: Does this product come in an undyed/uncolored option for those who like the natural color of cork?
Answer: Sorry, the colors shown are the only ones available. The blanched Almond color is fairly close to the color of natural cork. Order a sample and see if it works for your project.https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/F...
Question: Could this cork bulletin board be used as an acoustic panel or do you have a different product for that purpose? it's for casual interior use in a gaming room.
Answer: Yes, perfect application. Some nice colors available.
Question: Hi I'm looking for something I can put on top of my pingpong table to protect it when I use it for other things. Would a 5'x6' sheet of this material work as a table mat/table protector?
Answer: Sure, it would be perfect for this application. Marmoleum Sheeting comes 79" wide. It must be ordered in square yards rounded to the next whole yard. Therefore, you would need to order a piece that was 79" x 66" or 4 Square Yards (36 SF). It sounds like you would be not be needing any adhesive so you could take on and off as needed. You may need some kind of clamps to keep it in place. Should you ever want to make it permanent, you would need one gallon of Forbo L910W adhesive. You may order this online or call 800-405-0222 if you need further assistance.
