I am planning to fill in a relatively deep and wide gap between a concrete porch and the front door of the house. (It is currently covered over with duct tape.) The DIY recommendation seems to be "backer rod plus caulk." The home owner asked me to use clear caulk, which is one reason I am looking at this product. Am I understanding the product restrictions correctly, that this will not adhere to backer rod (because it is a type of plastic?) Thank you.

That is correct the Chemlink clear will not bond to the backer rod. Unfortunately none of the caulking products we carry will bond to the backer rod.
