Does this have to be sanded? Can I just patch and then paint if I don't want to sand?

If you do not sand, the surface you will paint over will not be smooth, and you will see where you applied the spackle.We recommend you follow the directions. Mix, apply, let dry, sand, spot prime, let dry, then prime and paint your surface.
