We have no experience with this underlayment when used in the manner you suggest, so we cannot say for sure that it will or will not perform well. Because it is designed to be used underneath carpet which is thicker and tougher than just a sheet, it's hard to know how it will hold up. The manufacturer will not warrant anything other than its intended use, i.e. underneath carpet. Ordering a sample should give you a better idea.
