It does not mean you can install it at the bottom of your pool, or expect it to hold up during a flood - only porcelain tile can do that - but for typical spills you clean up after, it should be fine. Read this informational article to learn more about water resistance vs. waterproof. "

Question: I ordered samples of the Kahrs Avanti floor in three colors... Oak Lecco, Red Oak Nature, and Oak Pima. The Oak Pima and Red Oak Nature were both 7.88" wide, as written in the description. The width of the Oak Lecco sample is 1/2" smaller (not measuring 7.88" wide like the others). Why is this? Is this color a different width board than the others?
Answer: Oak Lecco is part of the Avanti Collection as are the other items. They all should be the same width. If your sample was not that wide, then maybe it was cut shorter for some reason. Question: I see the Jatoba La Paz is on backorder till mid May. Will this lead time be pushed back ? Can it be ordered today ?
Answer: I would say, if you want this floor in spite of the backorder and associated wait time, place your order now so your stock will be reserved for when the floor is back in stock. If you wait until it's back, it may be already sold out from other people ordering it while it was on back-order, as that happens a lot these days. Yes, the lead time may be pushed back. Nothing is set in stone, in this day and age, until they physically have it in their warehouse, safe and sound.
Question: How does this work on stairs?
Answer: Simply use two pieces for the treads and add a woodlock stair nosing that snaps to the front edge. You may also use it for the riser. This assumes you have an enclosed staircase with walls on both sides. If you have an open staircase, there is no way for the stair nosing to be returned along the short end of the stair tread. When you order your flooring, ask the eco-advisor to help you figure out how much to order. The stair nosings come 6' long and are made to order, not returnable and take about two weeks to make and ship. They will coordinate well with the color of the flooring.
Question: The length says it is 95", but the photos show very short segments. Which one is accurate?
Answer: The Kahrs Avanti Collection features classic 3-strip flooring . This means there are several strips of wood on that one width/length board. The best way to know is to order a small sample online and see a piece of the board.
Question: Does the Kahrs Avanti hardwood flooring wood have a finish or is it unprotected? Can a homeowner put a protective finish on it?
Answer: Per the Specs section at the bottom of the page, "Finish UV Cured Acrylic Urethane ". So no need to put a different finish on it.
Question: How do I clean the hardwood floor??
Answer: Here are guidelines directly from Kahrs on how to take care of hardwood floors : https://www.kahrs.com/en-us/how-to/cl...
Question: I just bought Pima Avanti Tres, what type of finish was used on the very top layer? Is it VOC free?
Answer: Kahrs uses a UV cured topical coating of Acrylic and urethane. These coatings are ultra low VOC when wet but are completely cured in the factory, so there is a negligible amount of emissions weeks later when you install them. Having visited the Kahrs factory myself two years ago, I can tell you that there was barely any odor even when thousands of panels of flooring were coming down the conveyor belts after being glued and finished 5-7 times. Kahrs flooring meets and exceeds all US standards and even European standards for indoor air quality. The VOC levels are .017 ppm for the California CDPH. Anything below 10 is considered zero. Kahrs products are recommended by environmental consultants because it is one of the few products that chemically sensitive people can tolerate. Because everyone is different, we alway recommend that you obtain a sample to test for your own tolerances. Please refer to our website on the right margin for more details, test results and certifications.
Question: What's the thickness of this?
Answer: Per the specifications on the product page, 0.63" thick.
Question: I am not familiar with the terms "two row" and "three row". What is the difference?
Answer: Are you talking about "two-strip" and "three-strip" ("two row" and "three row" are not on the product page)?Three-strip is when the width of a single board is visually split into three, making it appear to be many more boards than it actually is. Two-strip is the width of a single board that is visually split into two. One strip is one board, also sometimes just called plank flooring. Installing a multi-strip floor is great for use in smaller rooms, as it creates a sense of space, making the room feel much larger than it is.
Question: Where is the beechwood flooring manufactured?
Answer: Kahrs Original Scandinavian products are manufactured in Sweden.
Question: Are your engineered wood products in stock?
Answer: As of this writing, most of our on-sale wood flooring products are in stock in our warehouse (Oak Hampshire is en route to us). Anything we do not stock we can check with the manufacturer if they have stock available at their warehouses. We are happy to do that before you place your order (call us and we will check for you) ... if an item is not in stock and we find this out after you place your order, we will contact you with a timeline of when it is expected back in stock and see if this is okay for you, if not okay we can cancel your order. Our current on sale products can be seen here: https://bit.ly/GBSHardwoodOnSale
Question: Is this Kahrs product acrylic-infused? I see that the finish is described as acrylic.
Answer: Yes, some of the floors will feature an Acrylic Urethane that is cured instantly with UV light. Once it leaves the manufacturer, there will be no off-gassing within the floor.
Question: Does Kahrs engineered wood flooring contain PFAS?
Answer: No PFAS. confirmed.
Question: Is all Kahrs flooring manufactured in Europe and shipped to the US? Is there a flooring you would recommend that is made in the USA?
Answer: A majority of the raw materials are sourced from Sweden where their headquarters is located. While Kahrs is exceptional flooring, if you are looking for something sourced in USA you could look into Tesoro Woods which "sources our wood from controlled, sustainable forests in North America. More specifically, the majority of our wood veneers are harvested in Canada and the Northern United States."
Question: Do you have replacement wood flooring in the Harmony Oak Smoke? My floor is 15 years old - would it be same thickness?

Question: How wide are the planks and how many planks appear to be in a plank?
Answer: If you look at the Specs tab you will find all your answers: 5" wide x .5" thick x 73.25" long. This is a one strip product.
Question: Can you clarify if this product is okay to use over electric radiant heat?
Answer: Yes. Kahrs offers extensive installation guidelines for use over radiant heat. It was made for this as 80% of homeowners in Sweden use radiant heat.
Question: What is the Janka hardness scale for the oak and maple options?
Answer: In Europe they use a different scale called the Brinell Hardness Test. Results here:https://www.kahrs.com/globalassets/ka...
Question: should you use a product like Ruglock under area rugs ?
Answer: Per Kahrs, yes, you can use rugs over the Kahrs floor. They recommend using a backing or pad that is gridded to allow air flow between the rug and wood. You cannot use the dense, memory foam/anti-fatigue, pads or rugs on their floors as they do not allow air flow and will bond to the finish. Please keep in mind when using rugs that it will prevent the wood underneath from changing in tone like the uncovered portion of floor will.
Question: Is this waterproof?
Answer: No. If you are interested in waterproof flooring you should check out our waterproof cork, it is currently the only waterproof floor we sell. https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/A...
Question: What is the risk of slips & falls with this product?
Answer: I would judge the risk of slips and falls is no better or worse than any other matte sheen wood floor. I'd recommend ordering a sample so you can see and feel what the floor is like to pass your own judgment.
Question: I just installed this in my house and I want an eco friendly oil finish. The kahrs oil has a high VOC load. Is there another oil finish you'd recommend?
Answer: We asked this question directly to the President and the head technical department for Kahrs and they admitted it was ok to use Rubio Monocoat Universal Maintenance Oil as long as you continue to use that product whenever you maintain your floors in the future (Do not switch from one manufacturer to another mid stream).
Question: isn't mold a concern when you use a vapor barrier over concrete and under an engineered hardwood floor? The vapor barrier helps with one issue but may create another issue. Thanks
Answer: A vapor barrier will protect your floor from moisture coming up through your concrete. If you have concerns about too much moisture coming from below, we recommend either sealing your concrete with GBS Penetrating Concrete Sealer or using Quiet Walk Plus as your underlayment, which wicks out moisture as it arises. If you are concerned about moisture coming from above your floor, this is virtually a non-issue provided you clean up spills as they happen. If your space is prone to a lot of moisture (flooding, dishwasher exploding often, overflowing sinks and bathtubs, etc.) then we would recommend you go with glue down floors that can handle high moisture, such as Amorim Waterproof Cork Flooring or Forbo Marmoleum Sheet Goods https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/A...
Question: With the click-on system do you need the underlayment?
Answer: Based on where you are doing the installation, (above, on or below grade, and what surface your subfloor is, and relative humidity) and if you want to add insulation to reduce impact noise can impact what underlayment you choose, and if you need to have an underlayment. Further details can be found on the installation guide for this floor, which is located on the downloads section of the product detail page (also linked below for your convenience). Some subfloor situations require an underlayment, and others do not. As there are so many variables we can't give you a black and white answer here, but if you call us at 888-302-6051 M-F 9-5pm CST one of our eco advisors can get more information on your situation and give you a clearer answer.https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/c...
Question: Is there a moisture limit for floating over concrete with a vapor barrier? We're located in Florida. Calcium chloride test came back around 4.5 in our rooms - no noticeable moisture when we lifted carpet.
Answer: We've provided Kahrs flooring to customers in Florida for decades without issue. However, you must use a vapor barrier such as our QuietWalk Plus. It will protect the wood from excessive moisture (way higher than 4.5) as it is designed to do.
Question: How long does it take for delivery?
Answer: Length of time for delivery depends on your location relative to the warehouse this is shipping from and if the warehouse has the stock needed to fulfill your order. We can give you a better idea if you give us a call and let us know details on what color you would like, how much square footage, and your location. Call us at 888-302-6051 M-F 9-5pm CST.
Question: They suggest to apply their satin oil to maintain the floor, but it is based on urethane. Is it possible to use linseed oil instead?
Answer: The Kahrs Satin oil is to be applied initially once the floor is installed and then again on a regular basis as needed. While we are aware of the VOC content, it does flash off very quickly much like alcohol. If you have used the Satin oil initially, then you need to continue with that product from then on. If however, you have not used it initially, you can use our Rubio Monocoat zero VOC Universal Maintenance Oil. This must be used from that point forward. Unfortunately, this information is not in their user guide but was given to us by the head tech person at Kahrs.
Question: how thick is the veneer?
Answer: Per the verbiage on the product page, the surface layer is approximately 1/8" (3.5mm) thick, which can be sanded two times.
Question: Is this floor solid hardwood or engineered? It is described as solid hardwood but later in the description it says "Less expensive than solid hardwood floors".
Answer: It is engineered. We refer to it as Hardwood but never as solid hardwood. "These floors are constructed using the Kahrs patented parquet multi-layer technology, with three separate layers and a total thickness of 5/8" (15 mm). The surface layer is 1/8" (3.5 mm) thick, allowing Kahrs Original floors to be sanded two to three times - and allowing several generations to enjoy this beautiful floor."
Question: Is this appropriate for someone with severe chemical sensitivity?
Answer: Kahrs is, by far, our most popular brand of hardwood flooring for chemically sensitive customers. All of their floating floors are made with no added urea formaldehyde and no or ultra low VOC finishes. They are third party certified by multiple European organizations as well as US certifiers. Here is a link to our website: https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/A.... Emissions reports, installation guides and warranty information is located in the download section on the right hand margin of each product.Samples are also readily available for testing of your own tolerances.
Question: How much extra of the Kahrs Avanti Sonata do I order?
Answer: We recommend 5% for waste and another 5% for overage for the future.
Question: I ordered the Oak Meno and realized I need something to cover some steps. Is there a way to use this or get a good match that will work on stairs?
Answer: Yes, there are two choices: your contractor can make stair nosings out of oak to match your flooring, or you can purchase Kahrs stair nosing directly from Green Building Supply. Allow two-three weeks for delivery. Pictures are included in the Kahrs Molding Installation Guide from our website. https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/c...
Question: Can you put this flooring in a basement?
Answer: All of Kahrs hardwood flooring can be applied below grade on top of a moisture barrier and underlayment. We recommend our QuietWalk Plus. If your basement is damp from hydrostatic pressure from below, we recommend sealing it with our GBS Penetrating Concrete Sealer. This can be used on the walls too.Another good alternative for basements is our new WaterProof Cork flooring that has great thermal and acoustical properties. It looks great, is easy to install and is reasonably priced. https://www.greenbuildingsupply.com/A...
Question: Where is this particular product made?
Answer: The Kahrs Spirit Unity is made in China in accordance with the Kahrs European specifications and is certified as well.
Question: I'm looking for a flooring for my basement. I have had dehumidifier leaks and a hot water heater massive leak across three rooms. I was ready to purchase Lakeshore XPC Luxury Vinyl Plano flooring by Viking Flooring in Northport color/style. It's 7" x 48" plank until I read more about pvc flooring. This does have an aluminum oxide wear layer on top. I always try to buy green products for our health, our inside air quality and the health of the planet, but with all my water issues in the basement, I have almost given up. What would happen to a wood floor if I had another standing water issue or just the humidity in a basement? And, I'm also looking to mimic this color/ look of the Northport.... Can you assist? Thank you!
Answer: If you can wait a few months, Amorim is now producing a waterproof cork flooring that is ideal for basements. It is now shipping to the US but we will not be offering it until all colors and styles have arrive in late December or early January. This will be the safest most sustainable water-proof flooring on the market, bar none.
